Simplification of ratios

In mathematics, the simplification of ratios refers to simplifying ratios until they are fully simplified.[1] To simplify, use the method in which you can find the greatest common divisor or least common multiple, (see below) but use the numbers you get at the end to simplify the ratio.[2] It is also like simplifying fractions,[3] so if you learnt how to simplify fractions, you can use the method for simplifying ratios.

For example, 20:100 can be simplified like this:

  • 20:100
  • 10:50
  • 5:25
  • 1:5
