San Miguel del Ene attack

The location of the attack

The San Miguel del Ene attack was a massacre on 23 May 2021 in which 18 people were killed. The mass shooting happened in San Miguel del Ene, a rural area in the Vizcatán del Ene District of Satipo Province of Peru. It was allegedly done by the Militarized Communist Party of Peru (MPCP) ─ Sendero Luminoso.^[1] The attack was a response to the group's protest of the upcoming general election and conservative candidate Keiko Fujimori.^[2][3] On the attack, 16 people were killed. The attack's main objective was to attack the LGBT community.

Keiko Fujimori

The right-wing candidate Keiko Fujimori said the following text:^[4]

Quiero expresar mi rechazo categóricamente al atentado ocurrido el día de ayer en el Vraem, lamento profundamente que nuevamente actos sangrientos estén ocurriendo en nuestro país. Quiero expresar mis profundas condolencias a las familias que han perdido a sus seres queridos. Creo que para los que tenemos más de 45 años, esto no es una novedad, para muchos de los jóvenes quizás sí y este tipo de actos tenemos que rechazarlos profundamente”

Pedro Castillo

The left-wing candidate Pedro Castillo gave their condolences for the families of the killed people. His leader, Vladimir Cerrón, accused right-wing of being related with the attack.^[5]
