Ryan Edward Gaston Strome (born July 11, 1993) is a Canadian professional ice hockey centre. He currently plays for the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League (NHL). He has also played for the New York Islanders, Edmonton Oilers, New York Rangers, and Anaheim Ducks.

Career

Before playing in the NHL, Strome played one season with the Barrie Colts and four seasons with the Niagara IceDogs of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He had a successful time with his teams. With the IceDogs, he was named to the OHL Second All-Star Team.[1]

He was drafted 5th overall by the New York Islanders in the 2011 NHL entry draft.[2] On October 4, 2011, Strome signed a three-year, $2.775 million entry-level contract to join the Islanders.[3] He was sent down to play for their AHL-affiliate Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

On December 14, 2013, the Islanders called him up and Strome made his NHL debut in a 1–0 overtime loss against the Montreal Canadiens.[4] On December 20, he recorded his first NHL point after assisting on a Brian Strait goal in a 5–3 win against the New York Rangers.[5] On January 6, 2014, Strome scored his first NHL goal against Kari Lehtonen in a 7–3 win against the Dallas Stars.[6] On September 20, 2016, Strome signed a two-year, $5 million contract to stay with the Islanders.[7]

On June 22, 2017, the Islanders traded Strome to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Jordan Eberle.[8] On September 20, 2016, Strome signed a two-year, $6.2 million contract extension to stay with the Oilers.[9] He played parts of two seasons with the Oilers.

On November 16, 2018, the Oilers traded Strome to the New York Rangers in exchange for Ryan Spooner.[10] On November 6, 2020, Strome signed a two-year contract to stay with the Rangers.[11] He played four seasons with the Rangers.

On July 13, 2022, Strome signed a five-year, $25 million contract to join the Anaheim Ducks.[12] He played four seasons with the Ducks.

On March 6, 2026, the Ducks traded Strome to the Calgary Flames in exchange for a 2027 seventh-round draft pick.[13]

Personal life

Strome's younger brother Dylan is also a professional hockey player in the NHL.[14]
