Reid Schaefer (born September 21, 2003) is a Canadian professional ice hockey winger. He currently plays for the Nashville Predators of the National Hockey League (NHL).

Career

Before playing in the NHL, Schaefer played parts of two seasons with the Spruce Grove Saints of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) and parts of four seasons with the Seattle Thunderbirds of the Western Hockey League (WHL).

He was drafted 32nd overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2022 NHL entry draft.[1] On July 15, 2022, Schaefer signed a three-year entry-level contract to join the Oilers.[2] He never played a regular season game for the Oilers.

On March 21, 2022, the Oilers traded Schaefer along with Tyson Barrie, a 2023 second-round draft pick, and a 2024 fourth-round draft pick to the Nashville Predators in exchange for Mattias Ekholm and a 2024 sixth-round draft pick.[3] He was sent down to play for their AHL-affiliate Milwaukee Admirals.

On November 28, 2025, the Predators called him up and Schaefer made his NHL debut in a 4–3 win against the Chicago Blackhawks.[4] On December 2, Schaefer scored his first NHL goal against Devin Cooley in a 5–1 win against the Calgary Flames.[5] On July 30, 2024, Schaefer signed a two-year, $2.3 million contract to stay with the Canadiens.[6]
