Provinces of Italy

Italy is divided into 20 Regions (Regioni in Italian) and every Region is divided into Provinces. There are 110 provinces in Italy.[1] Each province is headed by a President assisted by a representative body, the Provincial Council, and an executive body, the Provincial Executive.

The three main jobs of a province are:

  • Local planning and zoning
  • Provision of local police and fire services.
  • Transportation regulation (car registration, maintenance of local roads, etc.)
