A perfluorinated compound is a chemical compound that contains a lot of fluorine. They are derivatives of other compounds where fluorine has replaced every hydrogen atom in the structure (sometimes excluding certain functional groups).
Types of perfluorinated compound
- Fluorocarbons are perfluorinated hydrocarbons.
- Fluoropolymers are large fluorocarbons. Polytetrafluoroethylene, also known by the brand name Teflon, is a fluoropolymer.
- Perfluoro acids are perfluorinated organic acids. Examples include triflic acid and perfluorooctanoic acid.
