Paul Xavier Rinn (13 September 1946 – 3 August 2022) was an officer in the United States Navy. He was the first commanding officer of the USS Samuel B. Roberts (FFG-58) and was in charge when the ship struck a mine in the Persian Gulf on 14 April 1988. Rinn was born in New York City. He was awarded a Purple Heart and the Legion of Merit for his actions on USS Samuel B. Roberts.
Rinn died on 3 August 2022 from a heart attack while at a speaking event in Boston, Massachusetts at the age of 75.[1]
