Paul Gregory Green (12 September 1972 – 11 August 2022) was an Australian professional rugby league player and coach. He played as a halfback or hooker. In 1995, he won the Rothmans Medal. In 2015, Green coached the North Queensland Cowboys to the club's first and only premiership to date.
Green played for the Cronulla Sharks (1994–98), the North Queensland Cowboys (1999–2000), the Sydney Roosters (2001–02), the Parramatta Eels (2003) and the Brisbane Broncos (2004). He later became a coach. From 2014 to 2020, he coached the Cowboys. The club won the premiership in 2015, beating Brisbane in the final during golden point [en]. He also coached Queensland during the 2021 State of Origin series.
Green was born in Brisbane, Queensland. He was married and had two children.
Green died by suicide on 11 August 2022 at his home in Wynnum, Brisbane, one month before his 50th birthday.[1][2][3] After his death, an autopsy revealed that Green had been suffering from a very severe case of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).[4]
