Operation Shaban (urdu:آپریشن شعبان) was a joint counter-terrorism operation in Balochistan, Pakistan, launched by the Pakistan Army, Frontier Corps, and Balochistan Police on 5 July 2026. Initiated in response to an attack on the Mangi Dam police station, the operation has successfully neutralized dozens of militants in the mountainous areas through ground and aerial intelligence-based operations.[1][2][3]

Background

On 4th july militants attacked Hanna Urak valley in which 4 civilians killed and 6 injured.[4] On 6th July a terrorist attack at a Mangi dam police post that left 27 officers dead—9 killed on-site and 18 executed after being kidnapped meanwhile 15 militants were killed -an operation was launched.[5] [6] On 8th July another attack was reported in Bela in which BLA militants ambushed army convoy in which 11 troops and 14 militants were killed.[4]

Operation

On 10th July, Pakistani officials reported total 79 terrorist were killed since July 5 in Operation Shaban and other operations (43 in Operation Shaban). A militants attack on police station successfully repulsed in which 8 militants killed, 5 other militants killed in helicopter operation.[7]

On 11th July, Pakistani officials reported total 102 militants were killed since july 5 in multiple operations, 64 were killed particularly in Operation Shaban.[8]

On 12th July, 3 more militants killed in Operation Shaban.[9] Another 4 militants killed in Saran Tangi area of Balochistan.[10]

On 13th July, the total number of terrorists killed in Operation Shaban has risen to 79.[11]

On 14th July, 6 more TTP militants killed in Operation Shaban, raising the total number of terminated terrorists to 85.[12][13]

On 15th July, 3 more Fitna al-Khawarij killed in Operation Shaban, raising the total number of terminated terrorists to 88.[14] [15]

On 16th July, Security forces killed 03 more "Fitna al-Khawarij" terrorists in Balochistan.The latest killings raised the number of terrorists killed in Operation Shaban to 91, while a total of 129 terrorists have been killed in Operation Shaban and other intelligence-based operations in Balochistan since July 5, state media reported.[16][17][18]

On 22th July, Pakistani security forces killed 10 militants in separate intelligence-based operations in Balochistan over the past 48 hours. The total number of militants killed since Operation Shaban began this month has reached 139.[19]

On 23 July 2026, security forces launched Operation Al-Azm, a counterterrorism operation in Balochistan, since the conclusion of Operation Shaban. The operation was conducted against militant groups operating in the province and included intelligence-based operations by security forces. By 26 July 2026, state media reported that 16 militants had been killed during the operation. The same reports stated that 24 people, including security personnel and civilians, had been killed in related attacks during the period. Security forces also reportedly destroyed militant hideouts and recovered weapons and explosives.[20]
