Nick DeSimone (born November 21, 1994) is an American professional ice hockey defenseman. He currently plays for the Utah Mammoth of the National Hockey League (NHL). He has also played for the Calgary Flames and New Jersey Devils.

Career

Before playing in the NHL, DeSimone played three years with the Union Garnet Chargers of ECAC Hockey.

He was not drafted by an NHL team. On July 15, 2015, DeSimone signed a two-year, $1,85 million entry-level contract to join the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League (NHL).[1] He never played a game for the Sharks. He was sent down to play for their AHL-affiliate San Jose Barracuda where he played parts of five seasons. On July 12, 2019, DeSimone signed a two-year contract to stay with the Sharks.[2]

On April 12, 2021, the Sharks traded DeSimone along with Mattias Janmark to the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for a 2022 fifth-round pick.[3] He was loaned out and sent down to play for the Rochester Americans.

On July 17, the Knights traded DeSimone along with a 2022 fourth-round draft pick to the New York Rangers in exchange for Brett Howden.[4] He never played a game for the Rangers.

On July 28, 2021, DeSimone signed a one-year contract to join the Calgary Flames.[5] He was sent down to play for their AHL-affiliates Stockton Heat and Calgary Wranglers. On July 13, 2022, DeSimone signed a two-year contract to stay with the Flames.[6]

On November 7, 2022, the Flames called him up and DeSimone made his NHL debut in a 4–3 overtime loss against the New York Islanders.[7] On November 4, 2023, he recorded his first NHL point after assisting on a Yegor Sharangovich goal in a 6–3 win against the Seattle Kraken.[8] On December 21, DeSimone scored his first NHL goal against Lukáš Dostál in a 3–0 win against the Anaheim Ducks.[9]

On January 24, 2024, the Flames placed DeSimone onto waivers and his contract was picked up by the New Jersey Devils the next day.[10] On June 24, DeSimone signed a one-year contract to stay with the Devils.[11]

On January 4, 2025, the Devils placed DeSimone onto waivers and his contract was picked up by the Utah Hockey Club the next day.[12] On May 30, DeSimone signed a one-year, $800,000 contract to stay with the now-Utah Mammoth.[13]
