Nick Blankenburg (born May 12, 1998) is an American professional ice hockey defenseman. He currently plays for the Colorado Avalanche of the National Hockey League (NHL). He has also played for the Columbus Blue Jackets and Nashville Predators.

Career

Before playing in the NHL, Blankenburg played one season with the Okotoks Oilers of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) and four years with the Michigan Wolverines of the Big Ten Conference (B1G).

He was not drafted by an NHL team. On April 8, 2022, Blankenburg signed a one-year entry-level contract to join the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League (NHL).[1]

On April 6, 2025, Blankenburg made his NHL debut in a 5–1 win against the Montreal Canadiens. During the game, he recorded his first NHL point after assisting on a Cole Sillinger goal.[2] On December 11, 2016, Blankenburg scored his first NHL goal against Mikko Koskinen in a 5–2 win against the Edmonton Oilers.[3] On July 15, 2022, Blankenburg signed a two-year, $1.65 million contract to stay with the Jackets.[4]

On July 1, 2024, Blankenburg signed a two-year, $775,000 contract to join the Nashville Predators.[5] He played parts of two seasons with the Predators.

On March 4, 2026, the Predators traded Blankenburg to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for a 2027 fifth-round draft pick.[6]

Personal life

Blankburg is a Christian.[7]
