Naresh Kumar Meena[1] (born 1979)is an Indian politician from Rajasthan. A former student leader of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), he is known for his independent political activities after rebelling against the Indian National Congress. Previously, he served as general secretary of Rajasthan University Student Union.[2][3]
Early Life and Education
Naresh Meena was born in Nayagaon, Atru Tehsil, in the Baran district of Rajasthan. He comes from a politically active family; his father, Kalyan Singh Meena, served as a Sarpanch for nearly 30 years, and his mother has also held the post of Sarpanch.4 [4]
Meena completed his higher education at the University of Rajasthan, Jaipur, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 2002. It was during his university years that he entered politics, joining the National Students' Union of India (NSUI).[1][2]
Political career
Student Politics
Naresh Meena began his political journey in student activism. He served as the General Secretary of the Rajasthan University Student Union. During this time, he built a reputation for aggressive activism and mobilizing youth from the Meena community in Eastern Rajasthan.[5]
The Samravata Incident
On November 13, 2024, during the polling phase of the by-election, a major controversy erupted in Samravata village. Villagers were boycotting the vote, demanding the village be moved from the Deoli sub-division to the nearer Uniara sub-division.[3]
Meena, supporting the boycott, entered a polling booth and engaged in a heated argument with Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) . During the confrontation, Meena physically assaulted (slapped) the SDM on camera.
