NHL 20 is an ice hockey video game. It was published by EA Sports and was developed by EA Vancouver.[1] It is the 29th game in the NHL series.
It was released worldwide on September 13, 2019. It was released for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.[2]
The game introduced a new "Eliminator" mode for World of Chel which was a battle royale-type mode, allowing 81 players to compete in a four-round survival bracket tournament to become the winner. Changes to commentary were also made, with James Cybulski and Ray Ferraro replacing NHL on NBC's Doc Emrick and Eddie Olczyk. Expansion Mode was also introduced, which allowed players to add an expansion team to the NHL.[3]
On June 19, 2019, it was announced that Auston Matthews of the Toronto Maple Leafs was chosen as the cover athlete for NHL 20.[4]
The game received positive reviews by game critics. Critics said that they liked the improved controls and physics, change in commentary, and Franchise Mode updates. However, critics also felt that many of the real-life player's faces not being included and the lack of improvements for EASHL, Be A Pro, and other modes were disappointing.[5][6][7]
