Moriori（ta rē Moriori[3]）is a Polynesian language. It is most closely related to Maori language. It is spoken by Moriori people, who live in Chatham Islands. The Islands are located in the east of South Island. The language went extinct in 20th century, but revitalisation is on going.
Moriori language became independent from Maori language as a result of isolation for centuries, but it is still possible for Moriori speakers to understand Maori language. However, word-final vowels can disappear in Moriori, which means that some words end with a consonant. This is a difference between the two languages.[4][5]
