A Microdrama (technical name) is a type of short Internet series that started in China ​under the original name Duanju. These series are in a vertical format and are designed to be seen on smartphones. They can be watched on media platforms such as TikTok/Douyin (抖音 in China). The Chinese name is duanju (simplified Chinese: 短剧; traditional Chinese: 短劇; pinyin: duǎn jù).

There are between 20 and 100 episodes in each series. Each episode is very short, usually around 1 to 2 minutes in length. While the duration of a single episode may range from 1 to 6 minutes, episodes longer than 3 minutes are relatively rare.

In China, microdramas are popular. The industry is worth billions of dollars. Now they are becoming popular in other countries, such as the United States. [1]
