Michael Mayr (10 April 1864 – 21 May 1922) was an Austrian politician, who served as Chancellor of Austria in the Austria from July 1920 to June 1921. He was a member of the Christian Social Party, and by profession a Historian.[1]

Life

Michael Mayr was born on 10 April 1864 in Aldwang, Austro-Hungarian Empire. He was the son of a farmer. He studied history and geography, being passionate about them. After becoming director of the Tyrolean State Archives, and from 1907 he entered politics. He held several positions during the Austro-Hungarian Empire, but after its fall in 1918, Austria gained its independence, and Mayr became a minister without portfolio. After the fall of the chancellorship of Karl Renner, Michael Mayr became chancellor in an interim government from 7 July 1920 to 21 June 1921. He died on 21 May 1922, of natural causes, leaving behind literary works about the Austrians and Germans, along with Italians.
