Medivnyk[1] or medovyk[2] іs an Ukrainian honey cake.[1]

Marianna Dushar says that medivnyk is an important dessert of Lviv cuisine.[3] Polish-Ukrainian food writer Wiktoria Popin included medivnyk as a type of fruitcake.[4][5] Medivnyk uses spices, nuts and raisins.[3][4] Normally, Buckwheat honey is preferred to give the cake its unique taste.[1][6]

Other than the spongy cake, medivnyk in Ukrainian can also mean prianyk or pernik, a hard honey cookie.[7]

The village of Velykyi Bychkiv, which is located in the Rakhiv Raion, Zakarpattia Oblast, has a unique wedding custom. Instead of baking a traditional wedding korovai ( korovai is a delicious traditional Ukrainian, Belarussian, Russian bread), they make a beautifully decorated honey cake called medivnyk. This Medivnyk is beautifully decorated with ornaments. So, It looks like Hutsul embroidered shirts.[8]

The cake is also served during Ukrainian Christmas.[6]
