Mandalorians are typically human, but other species are able to become mandalorian by following their rules and traditions, or being adopted as "foundlings".

Mandalorians come from a planet named Mandalore. Over time, many of them spread throughout the galaxy. They live in clans and follow a shared code of behavior known as the Creed. Loyalty to family and clan is integral within Mandalorian culture. Mandalorians can adopt and raise other species as their own, named foundlings. These foundlings are trained to become a mandalorian when they grow up.
Mandalorians are famous for their armor. It is composed of a very strong metal and is a sign of their identity. Different colors and symbols on a mandalorian's armor is indicative of their clan or personal history.

Mandalorians make extensive appearances throughout Star Wars media. The very first instance of a Mandalorian was Boba Fett in The Empire Strikes Back (1980). The species are extensively explored in the Disney+ series The Mandalorian.
