Manchesterism, or Burnhamism,[1] is the political philosophy that Andy Burnham followed during his time as mayor of Greater Manchester from 2017 to 2026.[2]

Burnham said that Manchesterism was meant to be "the end of neo-liberalism",[3] "business-friendly socialism"[4] and "a modern and functional response to the high-inequality, low-growth trap that came from the 1980s drive to privatise economic power and overcentralise political power in the Treasury".[5]

In a speech to the Centre for Cities, Burnham said Manchesteriam was also meant to end trickle-down economics.[6]
