Luke Aaron Bronin[1] (born June 30, 1979)[2] is an American politician and lawyer who was the 67th mayor of Hartford, Connecticut from 2016 to 2024.[3][4] He is a member of the Democratic Party.[5] He is the Democratic nominee to represent Connecticut's 1st congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2026.[6][7] He beat incumbent U.S. Representative John B. Larson in the Democratic primary in August 2026.[8]

Early life

Bronin was born in Westchester County, New York. He went to Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire before he went Yale University. Afterwards, he went to Balliol College, Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. He shared a house with future governor of Maryland Wes Moore.[9] He returned to the United States to earn a Juris Doctor at Yale Law School.[10][11]

2026 congressional campaign

On July 30, 2025, Bronin announced that he would run for the U.S. House of Representatives in Connecticut's 1st congressional district, running against Democratic incumbent John B. Larson.[12] In an upset, Bronin beat Larson at the Democratic Party's endorsement nomination convention on May 11, 2026.[13] Bronin later went on to win the primary on August 11, 2026.[8]

Personal life

Bronin was married to Sara Cecilia Galvan.[14] They met when they were both Rhodes Scholars.[15] She was a professor at University of Connecticut Law School.[16] They have three children.[17] Bronin and his wife announced their divorce in September 2024.[18]

Bronin is a songwriter, guitarist, and singer, with a self-titled album of seven songs. One of his songs was played on the television show Dawson's Creek.[19]
