A leek is a vegetable. It belongs to the genus Allium. This is the same genus as onion and garlic.
Leeks can be used for cooking. They are usually tall and skinny with a cylinder-like body.
Leeks take around 100 to 120 days to grow. They are mainly harvested in Europe and Asia. They are planted in deep holes to protect them from sun. The soil must be fertile, and it must allow water to travel without creating puddles or draining too quickly.
