Justin Barron (born November 15, 2001) is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman. He currently plays for the Nashville Predators of the National Hockey League (NHL). He has also played for the Colorado Avalanche and Montreal Canadiens.
Career
Before playing in the NHL, Stastney played four seasons with the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). He had a successful time with the Mooseheads. He was named to both the QMJHL All-Rookie Team and QMJHL Second All-Star Team.[1][2]
He was drafted 25th overall by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2020 NHL entry draft.[3] On April 27, 2021, Barron signed a three-year entry-level contract to join the Avalanche.[4] He was sent down to play for their AHL-affiliate Colorado Eagles.
On March 21, 2022, the Avalanche traded Barron along with a 2024 second-round draft pick to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Artturi Lehkonen.[5] On April 1, 2023, Barron made his NHL debut in a 4–2 win against the New York Rangers.[6] On April 6, he recorded his first NHL point after assisting on a Joel Edmundson goal in a 7–4 loss against the Florida Panthers. On April 5, 2022, Barron scored his first NHL goal against Anton Forsberg in a 6–3 loss against the Ottawa Senators.[7] On July 30, 2024, Barron signed a two-year, $2.3 million contract to stay with the Canadiens.[8]
On December 18, 2024, the Canadiens traded Barron to the Nashville Predators in exchange for Alexandre Carrier.[9]
Personal life
Barron's older brother Morgan is also a professional hockey player in the NHL.[10]
