iPadOS 27 is the eighth tablet operating system of iPadOS developed by Apple Inc. It was announced on June 8, 2026 at Apple Worldwide Developers Conference 2026 and will be released this fall.[1][2][3]
Apple expanded visual intelligence to the iPad. On iPad Pro (7th generation) or later and IPad Air (8th generation) with at least 1 TB of storage, users can set a custom voice for Siri. Improved dictation and on-device features are supported on models with an M4 chip or later and at least 12 GB of RAM.[4]
iPadOS 27 introduces Siri AI, a rebuilt version of Siri powered by Apple Intelligence making it behave more like a chatbot.[5] The new Siri can have natural conversations, use personal information from apps such as Messages, and understand content displayed on screen.[5] The new Siri can carry out complex actions within apps. iOS 27 also introduces a Siri app that syncs via iCloud. It lets users begin, view, or continue Siri conversations.[6][5] Siri AI is not available in the European Union or China due to regulatory requirements.[5] Files and photos can be uploaded into the new Siri app.
Apple redesigned the AirPods settings UI in iPadOS 27, adding a custom equalizer that lets users adjust lows, mids, and highs.
iPadOS 27 introduces a redesigned Screen Time interface and new child-safety controls. Parents can set Time Allowances across app categories. Parents can determine when apps are available to their children.[7] iOS 27 adds an "Ask to Browse" feature which requires children to obtain approval before visiting a new website. Parents also can require approval before a child communicates with a new contact.[7]
A Liquid Glass slider in the settings allows users to adjust the translucency of the system interface, and Apple revised the Liquid Glass design introduced in iPadOS 26 to improve readability. Apple also described general performance and responsiveness improvements across the system.[8]
The iPad's status bar now displays the name of the app a user is on, and the menu bar can be accessed by tapping on or hovering the cursor over the app name. iPhone apps optimized for iPadOS can be resized.
iPadOS 27 drops support for the iPad (8th generation), iPad Mini (5th generation), iPad Air (3rd generation), iPad Pro (3rd generation).[9]
The first developer beta of iPadOS 27 was released on June 8, 2026.
