Genmab A/S is a Danish-American biotechnology company. It was started in February 1999 by Florian Schönharting.
The company's main office is in Copenhagen. It also has offices in Utrecht, Netherlands, and Princeton, USA. Genmab is listed on the Nasdaq Copenhagen stock exchange.[2][3]
Genmab started as a spinoff of an American company called Medarex. BankInvest provided the early money to start the business.[5]
In 2008, the CEO Lisa Natale Drakeman was the highest-paid director in Denmark, earning 28.6 million DKK.[6] However, the company faced hard times in 2009. They lost 965 million DKK[7] and had to lay off more than half of their workers (about 300 people).[8]
In 2010, Jan van de Winkel became the new CEO. Under his leadership, the company recovered its value. He has over 20 years of experience and has written over 300 scientific papers.[9]
