Frédéric Back (April 8, 1924 – December 24, 2013) was a Canadian artist and movie director of short animated movies. He won two Academy Awards. His first was for his movie Tout rein and his second for Crac!. His short movie, The Man Who Planted Trees won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film in 1988.
Back was born in Saarbrücken, Saar. He moved to Canada in 1948. He worked as a teacher at École des Beaux-Arts de Montréal. Back died of cancer in Montreal on December 24, 2013.[1]
