Filip Hronek (born 2 November 1997) is a Czech professional ice hockey defenceman. He currently plays for the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League (NHL) and serves as an alternate captain. Outside of the NHL, Hronek played for the Mountfield HK of the Czech Extraliga (ELH).

Career

Before playing in the NHL, Hronek played one season with Mountfield HK of the Czech Extraliga (ELH) and one season with the Saginaw Spirit of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).

He was drafted 53rd overall by the Detroit Red Wings in the 2016 NHL entry draft.[1] On 14 July, Hronek signed a three-year entry-level contract to join the Red Wings.[2] He was sent down to play for their AHL-affiliate Grand Rapids Griffins. He helped the Griffins during playoffs. They defeated the Milwaukee Admirals, Chicago Wolves, and San Jose Barracuda. They went on to defeat the Syracuse Crunch four games to two in the Final to win the Calder Cup.[3]

On 4 October 2018, the Red Wings called him up and Hronek made his NHL debut in a 3–2 overtime loss against the Columbus Blue Jackets.[4] On 11 October, he recorded his first NHL point, assisting on a Dylan Larkin goal in a 5–3 loss against the Toronto Maple Leafs.[5] On 13 October, Hronek scored his first NHL goal against Tuukka Rask in a 8–2 loss against the Boston Bruins.[6] On 3 September 2021, Hronek signed a three-year, $13.2 million contract to stay with the Red Wings.[7]

On 1 March 2023, the Red Wings traded Hronek along with a 2023 fourth-round draft pick to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for the New York Islanders' 2023 conditional first-round pick which was held by Vancouver and a 2023 second-round draft pick.[8] On 18 June 2024, Hronek signed an eight-year, $58 million contract to stay with the Canucks.[9]
