Dang Tat Thang[1][2] (born October 29, 1981), also known as Eric Dang, is a Vietnamese businessman and airline executive[3]. He helped start Bamboo Airways in Vietnam and later served as the Chairman of FLC Group[4][5].

Early life and education

Thang was born in Hanoi, Vietnam. He studied architecture at Hanoi University of Architecture and earned a Bachelor's degree[4]. Later, he studied in the United Kingdom and received a Master's degree in Construction and Project Management from Northumbria University[4].

Career

Early work (2005–2014)

Thang began his career in project management and architectural design. He worked for several companies, including Compass Group (UK) and CapitaLand Vietnam[4].

FLC Group and Bamboo Airways (2014–2022)

In July 2014, Thang started working at FLC Group, a large Vietnamese business company. He held leadership roles, including Vice General Director[4].

In 2017, he helped launch Bamboo Airways[3][6]. He became the first Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and later served as Vice Chairman and Chairman of the airline[5]. During his time as leader, Bamboo Airways expanded its fleet, flew millions of passengers, and added domestic and international flight routes[3][7][8][9].

In March 2022, Thang became Chairman of both FLC Group and Bamboo Airways after former Chairman Trinh Van Quyet was arrested[5][10][11]. In July 2022, he resigned from his positions at both companies[12].

Other aviation business

After leaving Bamboo Airways, Thang co-founded AVi8 Airways in Cambodia with American businessman Ed Wegel. The company was created as an airline charter service in Southeast Asia.

In May 2024, the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam[13][14][15] issued a search notice for Thang[16]. Police sought information to investigate reports about unverified posts on social media concerning bank leaders[17][18][19][20].
