The film was produced by Kalanithi Maran and was one of the most expensive Indian films at the time. The music was composed by A. R. Rahman. Plot

The movie tells the story of Dr. Vaseegaran (played by Rajinikanth), a scientist who creates a highly advanced robot named Chitti (also played by Rajinikanth) after a whole decade of intensive research. Chitti looks like a human and has great strength, intelligence, and the ability to learn emotions. Vaseegaran wants to use Chitti to help humanity, but the robot faces challenges when it develops feelings for Sana (played by Aishwarya Rai), Vaseegaran’s girlfriend.

The situation becomes worse when Chitti is rejected by the Indian Army for not being able to make human-like decisions. Vassegaran then destroyed Chitti with a sledgehammer. Feeling betrayed, Chitti turns against Vaseegaran after being manipulated by Dr. Bohra, a rival scientist. The robot becomes destructive and develops a powerful version of itself, turning into a threat to the world.

The story follows Vaseegaran's attempts to stop Chitti and save humanity from the robot's destructive power.
