Dominik Robin Schmid (born 10 March 1998 in Rheinfelden, Switzerland) is a Swiss footballer. He plays as a defender for the Austrian Bundesliga club FC Red Bull Salzburg.
Schmid began playing football at FC Kaiseraugst. He soon moved to the FC Basel youth. He played in all youth teams of Basel up to the U-21 team by 2016. On March 10, 2017 he signed his first professional contract with FC Basel 1893. [1] He made his debut for FC Basel's first team on May 28, 2017 in a victory over Grasshopper Club Zürich. [2] In January 2018 he was loaned to FC Lausanne-Sport. A loan to FC Wil followed in 2019. In 2020 he joined Grasshopper Club Zürich in 2020.
He returned to FC Basel in the summer of 2023 and played 105 matches for Basel. He won a second league title with the club in 2025. 2026 Schmid moved to the Austrian Bundesliga club FC Red Bull Salzburg, signing a contract running until 2030. [3]
He made his international debut for the Switzerland U-17 team 2015 against Bulgaria U-17. He played three times for the Switzerland U-18 team and, in the autumn of 2016, seven times for the Switzerland U-19 team. He made his debut for the Switzerland U-21 team at the Tissot Arena in Biel/Bienne 2017. In March 2023, Schmid received his first call-up to the senior national team. [4]
