Dialister invisus is a species of bacterium, which was first isolated from an infected human root canal[1][2]. D. invisus is predominantly found in the oral cavities of individuals suffering from endodontic infections[3].
This bacterium was first discovered by J. Downes in 2003[1] and despite the fact that there have been no reported instances of outbreaks or epidemics cause by D. invisus, it is still recognised as a significant human pathogen capable of causing severe oral health issues[3].
The impact and presence of Dialister invisus is dependent on its location in the body. When present in the intestinal tract, for example, it does not seem to cause disease. In contrast, it has been detected and associated with urinary tract infections[3].
D. invisus seems to be more frequently found in third molars than in any other teeth[3]. The bacterium is also most frequently found in the molars of teenagers and has been connected to bacterial salpingitis and vaginosis when isolated from the female reproductive system[3].
