History

Headquarters in DJI Sky City

It was founded in 2006 by Frank Wang.[3] DJI is best known for making drones for photography and video recording. It is the world's largest maker of drones for everyday users and had more than 90% of the world market for consumer drones in 2024.[4] The company released the first Phantom drone in 2013. The Phantom became one of the most successful consumer drones ever made and helped DJI become the market leader.[5]

Products

Besides drones, DJI also makes cameras, gimbal stabilizers, microphones, and other products. In 2019, the company became the main owner of the Swedish camera maker Hasselblad.[6] DJI products are used in photography, television, making films, agriculture, and emergency services. Some governments have raised security concerns about the company's products.[7]
