Preparation

Cyclohexanone oxime is prepared like most oximes. Cyclohexanone is mixed with hydroxylamine, causing a condensation reaction to make the oxime and water as a byproduct.

Uses

Cyclohexanone oxime is used to make caprolactam through a reaction called the Beckmann rearrangement.
