The shape of the C. comes is oval with slightly thinner ends and an average cell size of 1.6-2.3 microns.[1] It forms chains of up to 4 to 20 individuals. It was first described in 1974 by Holeman and Moore from Anarobe Laboratory, Virginia Polytechnic Institute.[1]
Due to findings of similar Coprococcus species, in 2026 the species proposed to be renamed Allocoprococcus comes.[2]
The microbes in humans' guts can play a role in how medication used to lower blood pressure works.[3] A study using mice found that C. comes is able to reduce the ability of blood pressure medication to lower blood pressure.[3]
