Carl Sargeant (1968 – 7 November 2017) was a Welsh politician. He was born in St Asaph, Denbighshire. He was the Cabinet Secretary for Communities and Children from 2016 through his resignation in 2017. He represented the constituency of Alyn and Deeside in the National Assembly for Wales from 2003 until his death in 2017.[1]

Sargeant was suspended from Welsh Labour on 3 November 2017 following allegations of sexual harassment.[2] He committed suicide by hanging four days later on 7 November 2017 at his home in Connah's Quay, Flintshire, Wales at the age of 49.[3]

Following his death, Prime Minister Theresa May said on Twitter that: "My thoughts are with the friends and family of Carl Sargeant following his tragic death".[4] Leader of the Opposition Jeremy Corbyn also made a statement on Twitter saying: "I'm deeply shocked to hear of the terrible news about Carl Sargeant. My thoughts and profound sympathy are with his family and friends".[5]
