Carbon oxides, also called oxocarbons, are chemical compounds made of the elements carbon and oxygen.

Unlike hydrocarbons, very few carbon oxides are stable. Four carbon oxides are stable as pure compounds at room temperature: carbon monoxide CO, carbon dioxide CO2, carbon suboxide C3O2, and mellitic anhydride C12H9. Carbon suboxide is metastable and needs to be kept away from light or it will polymerise.
