History

Birdsville was originally a place where Aboriginal people lived. The town was later used as a stop for moving cattle. It became an important place for trade and rest during cattle drives in the 1800s. The town's name may come from the many birds found in the area.

Climate

Birdsville has a desert climate. It is usually very hot and dry, especially in summer. Temperatures can go over 40°C (104°F). Rain is rare, but when it comes, it can cause flooding.
