The Battle of Carev Laz was a military conflict that took place in Carev Laz, Montenegro on 17-28th July 1712. Ottoman soldiers were fighting against Montenegrin soldiers. The battle resulted in a Montenegrin victory.
Battle
The battle took place in a rocky, bushy area of Montenegro, full of sinkholes and hills, which was difficult to move through, especially in the summer heat. This terrain was familiar to the Montenegrins, helping them surprise the enemy with their attack. Some historians confirm this version of the battle, while others note the hardships the Montenegrins faced and the Turkish invasion of Cetinje. The Turks suffered heavy losses, with 2,000 dead, and were forced to retreat from Cetinje and Montenegro. [3]
Aftermath
In 1712, the first major Turkish attack on Montenegro ended in a Turkish defeat. In October 1714, Numan-paša Ćuprilić led over 30,000 soldiers to attack from two directions, though some say it was 120,000. The main target was the Katun district, which had only 3,000 to 4,000 fighters. Despite strong resistance, the Turks captured Cetinje, Čevo, and Njeguši, and took over the district. Bishop Danilo and some Montenegrins escaped to Venetian lands. The district was destroyed, but not fully conquered. A group of 600 Montenegrins kept attacking the Turks until they left in early November. The Turkish campaign lasted about six weeks. [4]
