Angelo Amato, S.D.B. (8 June 1938 – 31 December 2024) was an Italian cardinal of the Catholic Church. He was the Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints between 2008 and 2018. He was Secretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith from 2002 to 2008. He became a cardinal in 2010. He was born in Molfetta, Italy.
Amato was seen as a possible candidate for Pope in the papal conclave of 2013, however Pope Francis was elected instead.[1]
Amato died on 31 December 2024 in Rome, Italy at the age of 86.[2]
