Adam Nemec (born 2 September 1985) is a former Slovak professional footballer who played as a forward.

Adam Nemec (born 2 September 1985) is a former Slovak professional footballer who played as a forward.

Club career

Nemec played with MSK Žilina from 2004 to 2007, winning the Slovak First Football League in his last season.[2] He then played on loan for Erzgebirge Aue in Germany, scoring 10 goals in 29 games.[3] He joined the club for €85,000 with an option to buy for €750,000 if the club managed to stay in the league.[4]

In 2008, he signed with Belgian club Genk but only stayed one year.[5] He returned to Germany, this time to Kaiserslautern in 2009, where he played until 2012. He had an injury in 2011 from falling from a tree.[6] After that, he played for Ingolstadt and Union Berlin in Germany. In 2015, he joined New York City FC in the USA but left after a few months. He then signed with Willem II in the Netherlands. In 2016, he joined Dinamo București in Romania, where he scored two goals in the cup final and won a trophy. Later, he played for Pafos in Cyprus, where he scored 16 goals and won a golden boot.[7] He retired from his professional career in 2026, at the age of 40.[8]

International career

On 10 December 2006, Nemec debuted for the Slovak senior squad during a friendly match against United Arab Emirates.[9] He scored five goals in 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification, including in three in two matches against Malta.[10]

On 22 February 2019, Nemec announced his retirement from international football at the age of 33, along with two national team defenders Tomáš Hubočan and Martin Škrtel.[11] The trio shared a farewell game on 13 October 2019 in a friendly match against Paraguay, which coincided with a national team return to Tehelné pole after ten years.[12]
