Abdullah Ibrahim

Abdullah Ibrahim (born Adolph Johannes Brand; 9 October 1934 – 15 June 2026), also known as Dollar Brand, was a South African pianist and composer.

Abdullah Ibrahim (born Adolph Johannes Brand; 9 October 1934 – 15 June 2026), also known as Dollar Brand, was a South African pianist and composer.

Most of his music was about his childhood in Cape Town. His music genres were gospel of the AME Church and Ragas, to more modern jazz and other Western styles. Ibrahim has been seen as an important musician of Cape jazz. He was known for "Mannenberg", a jazz piece that became well known as an anti-apartheid anthem.[1]

Ibrahim died on 15 June 2026 in Prien am Chiemsee, Germany at the age of 91.[2][3][4]
