The AMX-10RC (fr. Roues-Canon) is a modern French reconnaissance and fire support AFV, manufactured by Nexter Systems. It was firstly It was adopted by French cavalry units in 1979[1].

The vehicle is armoured by GIAT 105 mm gun and TK 105 welded aluminium turret. It seats a driver and 3 member crews. The main features are COTAC fire control system, a six-wheel drive and skid sttering for turning ther hull.[2]

Utilization

French Army exploits 350 AMX-10 RC vehicles since 1976, but only 325 of the 403 originally planned were delivered between 1977 and 1991. The 2nd Hussar Regiment was the first unit to be equipped with this vehicle, starting in December 1979.[3][4][5]

In 1989, the 1st Army comprised five regiments equipped with 36 AMX-10 RC tanks, with one reconnaissance regiment per army corps and one reconnaissance regiment per infantry division. Two training units (the 1st Chasseurs Regiment and the 3rd Chasseurs Regiment) were also equipped with 24 AMX-10 RC vehicles, bringing the total for the 1st Army to 204 vehicles. The Rapid Reaction Force, for its part, has two regiments equipped with 36 AMX-10 RCs within the 6th Light Armored Division, for a total of 72 vehicles. As of that date, the Army had 276 AMX-10 RCs in service.[6][7]

Export

AMX-10RC is been exported to four countries:

 Cameroon

6 AMX-10RC were adopted to service of Armed Forces of Cameroon in 2021[8].

 Morocco

108 AMX-10 RC without water jets were adopted by the Royal Army of Morocco between 1981 and 1992[4].

 Qatar

12 AMX-10 RC were delivered in 1991 and 1992[4]

 Ukraine

On February 2023, the donations of vehicles to the Armed Forces of Ukraine were announced, intended to resist the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In March 38 AMX-10 RC were delivered by France with 10,000 105 mm shells[9] to 37th Marine Brigade[10]. On the sitituation of 2024,180 AMX-10 RC were reported to be on the service[11].

In March 2024 it was reported that the production of neccesary detachements would be launched in Ukraine for the maintenance of utilized AMX-10RC. The production was planned to be operated by KNDS group.[12]
