The Killing (sh. Ubijanje), na prostoru bivše Jugoslavije poznatiji pod naslovom Uzaludna pljačka, je američki crno-bijeli kriminalistički film snimljen 1956. u režiji Stanleya Kubricka, poznat kao prvo značajnije ostvarenje u Kubrickovoj filmografiji.

Predstavlja adaptaciju romana Clean Break Lionela Whitea, a scenario je napisao poznat pisac kriminalističkih romana Jim Thompson. Protagonist, koga tumači Sterling Hayden je iskusni profesionalni kriminalac koji, prije nego započene mirni život, odlučuje izvesti još jednu veliku pljačku, pri čemu bi meta trebala biti kladionica na hipodromu. Radnja prikazuje kako se njegov plan izjalovi zbog sukoba među suradnicima.

Kubrick je film snimio nakon što se sreo sa producentom Jamesom B. Harrisom. Napravljen je uz nizak budžet, pri čemu je Hayden bio jedino značajnije ime u glumačkoj postavi. Usprkos toga, izazvao je veliku pažnju i pohvale kritike, mada nije imao uspjeha na kino-blagajnama. Dore Schary, šef studija MGM, bio je toliko impresioniran filmom da je Kubricku i Harrisu povjerio njihov sljedeći i mnogo poznatiji film Paths of Glory.

Mnogo godina kasnije je Quentin Tarantino naveo The Killing kao jednu od glavnih inspiracija za vlastiti režijski debi Reservoir Dogs.
