Seleuk II Kalinik

Seleuk II Kalinik (grčki: Σέλευκος Β' Καλλίνικος , ? - 225. pne.), poznat i kao Seleuk II Pogon bio je vladar Seleukidskog Carstva od 246. pne. do 225. pne.

Bio je sin i prijestonasljednik kralja Antioha II i kraljice Laodike. Na kraju drugog sirijskog rata mu se otac razveo od majke kako bi se, u sklopu mirovnog sporazuma, mogao oženiti za egipatsku princezu Bereniku, kći kralja Ptolemeja II. Tada je Seleuk razbaštinjen, a prijestolje određeno za Berenikinog sina. Nedugo nakon Ptolemejeve smrti godine 246. pne. Antioh se odlučio pomiriti sa Laodikom i došao k njoj u Efez, gdje je naglo umro. Laodika je tvrdila da je na samrti proglasio Seleuka prijestonasljednikom, a nju regenticom. Tada su Laodikini pristaše, da bi osigurali prijestolje, likvidirali Bereniku i njenu djecu, što je Berenikin brat, Ptolemej III iskoristio kao povod za treći sirijski rat.

Rat je krenuo izuzetno loše po Seleuka, koji je iste godine izgubio niz obalnih gradova i sjevernu Siriju, te su egipatske snage došle na domak prijestolnici Antiohiji. Tada je Laodika inzistirala da Seleuk svog mlađeg brata Antioha Hijeraksa postavi ko-regenta i prepusti mu vlast u Maloj Aziji. Seleuk je nakon toga uspio vratiti dio izgubljenih teritorija, ali je potom Antioh proglasio nezavisnost, a vlastitom bratu objavio rat.

Pokušaj da brata kazni je oko 235. pne. doživio težak neuspjeh u bitci kod današnje Ankare. Nakon toga se Seleuk okrenuo na istok, nastojeći eliminirati prijetnju koju je predstavljala novostvorena partska država. O rezultatima tog pohoda postoje kontradiktorne tvrdnje u antičkim izvorima - po jednima je Seleuk doživio fijasko i čak bio zarobljen od partskog kralja Arsaka, dok je po drugima uspio natjerati Parte da ga priznaju kao svog sizerena.

Oko godine 228. pne. je Antioh Hijeraks pokušao napasti Seleukidsko Carstvo, ali je poražen uz pomoć pergamskog kralja Atala. Nedugo potom je Seleuk poginuo prilikom pada s konja. Seleuk je bio oženjen za princezu Laodiku, s kojom je imati dva sina - Seleuka Kerauna i Antioha Velikog, koji će obojica postati kraljevi.
