Mačvanski okrug se nalazi u zapadnom delu Srbije. Obuhvata opštine:

  1. Opština Šabac mesto Šabac
  2. Opština Bogatić mesto Bogatić
  3. Opština Loznica mesto Loznica
  4. Opština Vladimirci mesto Vladimirci
  5. Opština Koceljeva mesto Koceljeva
  6. Opština Mali Zvornik mesto Mali Zvornik
  7. Opština Krupanj mesto Krupanj
  8. Opština Ljubovija mesto Ljubovija

Ima ukupno 339.644 stanovnika. Sedište okruga je u gradu Šapcu.

U blizini Šapca su znameniti spomenici, posvećeni poznatim događajima iz istorije srpskog naroda:

  • Spomenik Karađorđu i srpskim junacima iz Prvog srpskog ustanka i Muzej Mišarske bitke (na Mišaru)
  • ostaci starog grada na obali Save, Novo Selo (mesto gde je bio dvorac kralja Milutina)
  • Kosanin grad, srednjovekovno utvrđenje na Ceru.

Nedaleko od Loznice je selo Tršić, rodno mesto, reformatora srpskog jezika i pravopisa, Vuka Karadžića. Iz Tršića se pešačkom stazom stiže u manastir Tronošu, jedno od najstarijih srednjovekovnih nemanjićkih zadužbina. Ovaj Manastir iz XIV veka, odigrao je u prošlosti istaknutu ulogu u očuvanju narodne kulture i tradicije Srba. Dugo se u njemu, a naročito u 14. veku, negovala prepisivačka škola za sopstvene portrebe i potrebe drugih manastira. Time je sačuvana istorijska i kulturna građa srpskog naroda.
