Latit

Latit iz Boksberga, Ajfel, Nemačka

Latit (engl. Latite, fr. Latite, nem. Latit, rus. Латит) je vulkanska stena izgrađena od fenokristala olivina, augita i labradora koji se nalaze u staklastoj osnovnoj masi kalijskog karaktera[1]. Ova intermedijarna magmatska stena je kenotipni (mlađi) izlivni ekvivalent monconita. Nastaje kristalizacijom lave intermedijarnog sastava, na površi Zemlje.

Minerali koji izgrađuju latit su:

Struktura latita je porfirska, dok je njegova tekstura masivna.

Porastom učešća alkalnog feldspata latiti prelaze u trahite a smanjenjem alkalnog feldspata u andezite ili bazalte zavisno od prisustva kiselih ili bazičnih plagioklasa.
