Dubnica nad Váhom (slov. Dubnica nad Váhom, mađ. Máriatölgyes, nem. Dubnitz an der Waag) je grad u Slovačkoj i četvrti po važnosti grad u Trenčinskog kraja.

Prirodni uslovi

Dubnica nad Váhom je smeštena u zapadnom delu Slovačke, blizu državne granice sa Češkom. Glavni grad države, Bratislava, nalazi se 140 km južno.

Reljef: Dubnica nad Váhom se razvila u oblasti krajnje zapadnih Karpatskih planina. Grad je smešten u kotlini najveće slovačke reke Vah. Kotlina je sa zapada ograđena planinama Bijeli Karpati, a sa istoka planinama Stražovske vrhi. Nadmorska visina grada je oko 240 metara.

Istorija

Ljudska naselja na ovom prostoru datiraju još iz praistorije. Naselje pod ovim imenom prvi put se spominje u 1193, ali se tokom sledećih vekova nije uzdiglo do naselja većeg značaja.

Krajem 1918. Dubnica nad Váhom je postao deo novoosnovane Čehoslovačke. U međuratnom vremenu ovde su izgrađen prostrani industrijski kompleks vojne industrije, koji dotadašnjem selu dao polet. U vreme komunizma naselje se naglo razvilo, pa je došlo do naglog povećanja stanovništva. Posle osamostaljenja Slovačke grad je postao njeno značajno središte, ali je došlo i do problema vezanih za prestrukturiranje privrede.
