Malgobek (Roushie: Малгобе́к; Магӏалбике) is a toun in Ingushetie, Roushie, locatit 45 kilometer (28 mi) northwast o the republic's caipital o Magas. Population: 31,018 (2010 Census);[1] 41,876 (2002 Census);[5] 20,364 (1989 Census).[6]

History

In 1934, the selo o Voznesenskoye wis grantit wirk dounset status. It servit then recently discovered ilefields, on the territory o umwhile Ingush veelages o Malgobek-Balka (Малгобек-Балка) an Chechen-Balka (Чечен-Балка). Toun status wis grantit tae it in 1939.

Durin Warld War II, Malgobek wis occupee'd bi the German forces frae 12 September 1942 tae 3 Januar 1943, when it wis recaptured bi the Red Airmy. In October 2007, Malgobek wis conferred the status o Ceety o Militar Glory bi Preses Vladimir Putin for heroically stoppin the German forces at its borders.[7]

In the 1990s, the toun's population doubled due tae an influx o refugees frae the neebourin war-torn Chechen Republic.

Athin the framewirk o admeenistrative diveesions, Malgobek serves as the admeenistrative centre o Malgobeksky Destrict, even tho it is no a pairt o it. As an admeenistrative diveesion, it is incorporated separately as the toun o republic significance o Malgobek—an admeenistrative unit wi the status equal tae that o the destricts. As a municipal diveesion, the toun o republic significance o Malgobek is incorporatit as Malgobek Urban Okrug.[2]
