Галактика находится на расстоянии около 50 млн. св. лет от Земли[источник не указан 3254 дня].

Рядом расположена галактика NGC 3729, гравитационно взаимодействующая с NGC 3718, что и вызвало искажение формы спиральных ветвей последней[источник не указан 3254 дня].

Этот объект входит в число перечисленных в оригинальной редакции «Нового общего каталога».

Галактика NGC 3718 входит в состав группы галактик NGC 3631[фр.]. Помимо NGC 3718 в группу также входят ещё 9 галактик.
