Gaio (Bíblia)

Gaio ou Caio é o nome de diversas pessoas no Novo Testamento da Bíblia.

  1. Um cristão chamado Gaio é mencionado na Macedônia como sendo companheiro de Paulo em sua terceira viagem missionária juntamente com Aristarco (Atos 19:29).
  2. No capítulo seguinte, um Gaio de Derbe é listado como um dos sete companheiros de viagem de Paulo que esperaram por ele na Trôade (Atos 20:4).
  3. Um Gaio é mencionado morando em Corinto e sendo um dos poucos na cidade a serem batizados por Paulo (os outros foram Crispo e a família de Estéfanas), que fundou a igreja na cidade (I Coríntios 1:14).
  4. Um Gaio aparece na porção final de cumprimentos da Epístola aos Romanos (Romanos 16:23) como sendo o "anfitrião" de Paulo e também de toda a igreja, seja qual for a cidade a partir da qual Paulo estivesse escrevendo na época. É muito provável tratar-se de Corinto e, portanto, o mesmo Gaio acima (#3).
  5. Finalmente, Gaio de Éfeso, a quem a Terceira Epístola de João foi endereçada. Ele pode ser qualquer um dos outros acima ou um outro diferente.
