Bernard Jules Robert Schmetz (Orleães, 21 de março de 1904 – Paris, 11 de junho de 1966) foi um esgrimista francês, campeão olímpico e vencedor de múltiplas medalhas mundiais.

Biografia

Bernard Schmetz nasceu na cidade de Orleães, no dia 21 de março de 1904.[1] Praticou natação e tênis durante a infância. Em 1923, mudou-se com a família para Paris, onde começou a praticar esgrima.[2]

Em Olimpíadas, fez sua estreia nos Jogos de Amesterdão, onde conquistou a medalha de prata por equipes. Pelo mesmo evento, ganhou também um ouro e um bronze nas duas edições seguintes.[3][4] Em 1937, tornou-se campeão mundial no evento individual.[1] Em 1949, foi condecorado Comandante do Mérito Desportivo e Cavaleiro da Ordem Nacional da Legião de Honra.[1]

Schmetz faleceu na cidade de Paris, em 11 de junho de 1966.[1]
